Why it is important to have a professional-looking website and blog

It's All About First Impressions

You should never judge a book by it’s cover, but we all know how important first impressions are.  Just as we all know that there is a particular way you have to dress up for a job interview,    (no, you can’t just show up in sweats!). Well you have got to think of your website as that first impression/job interview.  Having a professional and quality website is one of the key components to having a profitable online business.  It can be the deal breaker as to whether or not someone buys your services and products.  You want the website visitors to convert into clients, customers and returning readers thus, you have got to make this easy for them.

Ask yourself what you want your readers to takeaway from your site

You need to reflect on and answer these questions:

What is the intention behind having all these people come to your website/blog?

What is it that you want them to do once they are on your website/blog?

  • You want visitors to see you as a trustable and knowledgeable authority in your field. Thus, you want to let them know who you are (add some personality) and then you need to tell them how you are going to be beneficial to them.

  • You also want to get visitors onto your mailing list. Therefore, you need multiple places on your site where they can opt in to your email list: sidebar, bottom of blog post, a freebie or content upgrade for your blog post, or a complete separate page just for your newsletter.

  • You also want visitors to be able to hire you or purchase your services/products. Thus, you need to make sure there is a clear separate page where you have all of this information.  It’s always great to add a “Call to Action,” instead of assuming that people will find their own way and click the buttons you want them to. Instead have clear actions for them to take such as “hire me” or “click here to learn more about my services.”

  • You also want brands to see you as a professional in order for them to work with you and this, my friends, begins with a professional looking blog/website.

As it has become quite apparent thus far a professional looking website with lots of thought put into the design process can definitely increase the profitability of your online business.  Having a cluttered or unprofessional look can mean that the readers (and potential clients) making it to your blog, might not take you seriously due to the brand-image you are presenting to them.

Utilizing these tools can definitely contribute to a professional feel to your website and blog. Click the button below:

Key Components to a Professional Looking Website & Blog

Some components that make your website/blog have a more professional feel are:

  • Easy to navigate: a clean and simple layout and design

  • Mobile responsive design - This is very important, you want your readers that are using mobile devices to be able to use your site seamlessly and hit all the important tabs, sign up for your newsletter and make purchases. If they can’t do this on their mobile devices imagine all of the business you are losing!

  • Search bar: This makes it easy for the readers to find exactly what they are looking for

  • Quality images: Professional images of you and great graphics - This means: No selfies! This also doesn’t mean you have to spend tons of money on getting these done. If you or your friend have a good DSLR + a good backdrop then that’s all you’ll need! You won’t believe how friendly and professional looking photos of you can make an impact on your business

  • Good clear branded messaging - Use the same colours, fonts, have a nice clear logo and make sure your copy has clear messaging that is consistent

  • Make sure you don’t have any broken links

  • Engagement - Engage with your audience in the comments section or end your blog post with a question for your readers to answer. You become more relatable if you are having conversations with your readers showcasing to them that you are
        a) a human with a personality
               b) just like them!
You also build more trust and authority this way, because you are answering their questions

There you have it my friends, spend some time making your website and blog more professional looking and you see your brand grow.
